Celebrating Shared Learning

March 10, 2025

We're excited to highlight the success of Shared Learning 2025, an event that brought together educators and support staff from across Abbotsford to explore new ways to support our students and improve our schools. The energy was tangible as we gathered to celebrate accomplishments, explore fresh teaching ideas, and discover how technology can help us all learn, grow, and work together.

Our keynote speaker, Holly Clark, offered an up-close look at how artificial intelligence is changing today's classrooms. She showed how AI-powered tools can make educators' jobs easier while adding deeper, more meaningful learning experiences for students. Most importantly, she emphasized using AI in safe, responsible, and inclusive ways -highlighting how district-approved tools like SchoolAI can bring meaningful improvements to student learning while supporting equity and inclusion.

One important outcome of Shared Learning 2025 was seeing how AI tools can make real differences for students. English Language Learners and their families can benefit from Microsoft Reading Coach and Translator, which instantly breaks language barriers. Diffit helps teachers provide reading materials at the proper levels for each child, and School AI can create customized spaces so every student can learn at their own pace. Teachers are already exploring School AI, partnering with our ELL and Digital Learning Teams to discover other ways AI can support students.
We aim to ensure that AI enhances, rather than replaces, the personal connections that make our schools meaningful and effective. Holly Clark reminds us that when used thoughtfully, AI can spark creativity, strengthen problem-solving skills, and equip young people for a rapidly evolving future. This reflects the Abbotsford School District's commitment to inclusion, innovation, and integrity, ensuring our digital tools strengthen learning and human connection for our students and staff.

We appreciate your ongoing support of our schools as we thoughtfully pilot our use of AI tools. Our students deserve learning experiences that adapt to their needs and help them thrive; these new technologies will be a part of that. Thank you for being part of our learning journey; we can't wait to share our next step!
