Proficiency Language Posters Coming to a School Near You!

With the update of the curriculum comes updated assessment and reporting language. Our district will be using new proficiency language from Kindergarten to Grade 8 in our assessment and reporting structures starting this Fall. This language is aligned with the Ministry of Education’s draft reporting policy, in which we are a pilot district. Our district assessments and report card structures will now reflect the following language:

  • Emerging
  • Developing
  • Proficient
  • Extending

This new proficiency supports our belief that assessment and reporting should reflect a growth mindset and a focus on curricular standards. The district has worked with the team at Checkmyprogress to ensure that the new language is reflected in our report card program for our first term report cards.

In addition, the Curriculum Department has developed classroom posters with student friendly language to help students and parents understand each of the descriptors in the new proficiency scale. These posters will be delivered to schools in the coming weeks. For more information on assessment and reporting we invite you to visit our website at
