Yale Prepares for National Leadership Conference

It has been a busy fall for the Yale Leadership program! In September, the Lions’ Leadership program took twenty grade 11 students and 6 teachers to the Canadian Student Leadership Conference in Waterloo, Ontario. After spending the first three days sightseeing in Toronto and Niagara Falls, the students traveled to Waterloo to begin the conference.

Keynote motivational speaker Stu Sanders kicked off the conference by getting the students excited about the impact they can make in promoting a positive school culture. Dr. Samantha Nutt, who is the founder of War Child, spoke to the students that they can make a difference abroad from here in Canada. Other keynote speakers were Molly Burke, Ian Tyson, Mike Smith and George Couros. The students also participated in workshops and provided service work in the community. All of the students that participated commented on how it was a life changing conference and they came away with ideas they can use back at their schools.

Just this past week Yale Leadership sent ten grade 10 students to the BC Student Leadership Conference. They also heard from many keynote speakers, including CTV's Tamara Taggart. They did service projects and participated in many workshops.

We are excited to announce that Yale Secondary will be the location of the Canadian Student Leadership Conference hosted by the Abbotsford School District in 2019!
